Gigi Hadid arrested for cannabis possesion in the Cayman Islands

The news outlet Cayman Marl Road has reported model Gigi and friend Leah Nicole McCarthy were arrested for possession of “ganja and utensils used for the consumption of ganja” found during a search of their luggage by customs agents at Owen Roberts International Airport. “The quantities were relatively small and were seemingly for personal consumption,” the report added.

Hadid’s rep Ronde Coletta told The Washington Post that she had ” purchased the marijuana legally in New York City with a medical license.” The Cayman Islands allow cannabis for medical use only, but do not allow for it to be brought into the country, something that escaped Hadid and her friend.

Earlier today celebrity news site TMZ reported a source close to Gigi Hadid told them “the weed discovered wasn’t in her personal bag, it was found in a bag of one of the people she was traveling with … but because the plane was in her name, all of the contents became her responsibility.”

Hadid has already paid a $1000 fine and went on to enjoy the rest of her holiday, according to her rep via The Washington Post.
